Senior Construction Inspector

General Statement of Job Benefits Supplemental Questions
The Spotsylvania County Department of Utilities/Public Works/Capital Construction is seeking to hire a Senior Construction Inspector. The Department provides water and sanitary sewer service to the residents of Spotsylvania County.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the implementation of the overall goals and objectives developed within the Department to ensure system integrity. The candidate will be expected to respond independently to various construction inspection challenges that arise.
Special Duties & Responsibilities:Job duties will include a concentration on:
Supervision of Construction Inspectors and administration of the Utilities/Public Works Department's inspection program including planning, supervising, assigning, and reviewing work;
Inspection of new water and sanitary sewer infrastructure for the Utilities/Public Works Department's capital projects and private development projects;
Measure, test and check construction materials, methods and installations to ensure conformance by contractors to the plans and specifications as well as County and state standards;
Perform evaluations for bond reductions on subdivision development;
Coordinate with contractors, developers/owners, and Engineers to obtain required information for utility infrastructure acceptance by the County; and
Maintain necessary inspection records and reports as required.
Minimum Training & Experience:Candidate Profile:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School diploma; preferably supplemented by college level courses in Civil Engineering or construction, and five (5) years of experience in construction of utility and/or road projects;
Ability to communicate in standard English using standard construction and engineering terminology effectively and efficiently;
Knowledge of street, water, and sanitary sewer construction practices;
Ability to give, receive, and understand and follow oral and written instructions;
Ability to independently and proactively solve problems;
Ability to gain knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, codes and regulations as they relate to water and sanitary sewer infrastructure construction;
Ability to handle confrontation in a proactive and professional manner when dealing with internal and external customers; and
Possession of a valid drivers' license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
