Summary:
This role can be filled at the Professional level or the Senior level of this role The Senior Cobol Developer is under general supervision and makes modifications to complex applications and will create detailed specifications.
This person will lead and assist in design, creation, deployment, and maintenance of programs.
They will also demonstrate effective communication skills to interpret needs of clients and work very closely with other Information Systems teams.
The Cobol Developer will work under the guidance of Senior Cobol Developer and makes modifications to moderately complex applications from detailed specifications.
This person will assist in design, creation, deployment, and maintenance of programs.
They will also demonstrate effective communication skills to interpret needs of clients and work very closely with other Information Systems teams.
In this role you will:
Development (70%) Analyze and prepare specifications and documentation according to department standards.
Code, test, and integrate applications.
Provide in-depth analysis, design, and support for department applications and programs.
Perform useful research and issue resolution for processing of business data.
Communicate effectively (both verbal and written) and work alongside coworkers, clients, and project managers.
Help to translate technical details into business terminology to bridge gaps between clients and IT.
Be available to provide daytime and nighttime production support for applications to provide positive customer service.
Act as technical lead on medium and large development efforts.
Work with Quality Assurance teams in testing of applications.
Peer review code and technical documents for other team members to ensure best quality.
Utilize source control software to maintain integrity of production software, including prior versions of code.
Follow defined Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Change Control processes.
Organize and send out communication about development activities with other teams, eg database management, infrastructure configuration, quality assurance testing.
Leadership (30%) Provide technical assistance to clients in a professional and accommodating manner.
Take leadership role on moderately complex projects independently or as part of a larger project team.
Handle multiple competing initiatives and escalate issues effectively.
